Shuffle

I can't save him. I want to, though. When I was readying to leave work, our program director asked me to support a Client. He was in a verbal altercation with some other folks, and she wanted to ensure he had someone to talk to. He was drunk. I knew he was drunk at 1pm and still drunk at 6:00pm. We talked. Mostly, he talked. I could have been more direct and said to drink water, eat, and listen to the Braves game. That is what I said, but I also let him keep talking. He spiraled and decided to leave for the night. It rained tonight, and I just kept thinking about him. I wanted to save him, but I couldn't. Some of the guys played cards and listened to music as I left. They shouted for me to do a little shuffle, so I did - I moved my shoulders back and forth and laughed and waved. It all lives together - the heavy and the light - the pain and delight.
